I have several shasta daisy plants that I kept in my greenhouse over the winter. How soon can I plant them outside?

Expert Response

Hello and thank you for your question. Shasta daisies are perennials and can be planted now, as long as the ground is not sodden/muddy. If they have been greenhouse grown, be sure to harden them off slowly and steadily for about a week by placing them in direct sunlight outside of the greenhouse for an hour the first day, two hours the next, etc. Once they've gotten through a week they can handle full sun for a full day and will not suffer from leaf scorch.

Note: Shasta daisies will overwinter if planted in the ground. They die back to the crown and regrow (and spread) every year as long as the ground is not waterlogged (they dislike wet feet) and they have full sun.
