River rocks and garden #927085

Asked March 30, 2026, 2:35 PM EDT

I have worms that were made from topsoil and grass but it has tons of River Rock in it ranging from quarter inch to six inches. After removing the big rocks, should I shift the soil to remove the smaller rocks or would it be okay as it.

Marion County Oregon

Expert Response

Hi Nancy,

It really depends on what you are planning to plant in that area. The only reason to sift the soil would be if you plan to plant vegetables or some other seeds. For lawns or ground covers, there is no need to take out anything unless it interferes with your cultivation.

Hope this helps. Write again anytime.
