companion plant recommendations for junipers #926841

Asked March 26, 2026, 4:36 PM EDT

Hi, I have some juniper plants growing on a hill on the east side of my house (I live in La Plata). The junipers were getting invaded by vinca which I have tried to remove. Can you give me some plant recommendations to include with the junipers that will help prevent erosions on the hill. I've attached a photograph of the area. Thanks in advance!!

Hi Sylvana,

You will find our articles on Ground Covers and
Recommended Native Plants for Maryland helpful in choosing one or more ground covers.
When selecting plants, consider the site condition, especially the exposure (sunny or shady) and the soil type (wet, dry, or well-drained). Once you have selected plants that will work well in your space, prepare the site so they can establish successfully. Remove any remaining invasive plants before planting. After planting, keep the new plants well-watered until they become established. As they grow, continue removing any weeds that might compete with them.

Thank you for your question.
