UofM Cherry Tree Mold #926787

Asked March 26, 2026, 9:33 AM EDT

Hello, we have a 15+ year old UofM developed Cherry Tree, that for the first time is showing a mold, I think. Is there a treatment or removal that we can use on it? The mold itself is rock hard. We had a record cherry harvest last summer, and look forward to more. Thank you for any advise.

Expert Response

Thank you for reaching out.

This is a fungus that grows on damaged wood.  It is suggested by my app to have a certified arborist come out and check it out- especially since you value this tree.  As a volunteer I am not a professional so I would encourage you to have the arborist take a look. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more help, but I think you need a definite answer.
