Hello there!
There are no restrictions for planting gooseberries in Calhoun county, though many counties in MI require permits in pine blister rust control zones. https://www.michigan.gov/-/media/Project/Websites/mdard/documents/pesticide-plant-pest/planthealth/white-pine-blister-rust-resistant-variety-map.pdf?rev=d57b444fa06344a2b16f7d6767d85d92
Gooseberries like good drainage, full sun, a lot of organic matter in the soil, and a position that allows good air circulation to minimize mildew. The varieties 'Invicta', 'Pixwell' and 'Josta' are all good, and will probably be the most available to buy.
