Is it recommended to rake the lawn in spring to “clean it up” after winter or leave alone?

Expert Response

Hello Karen,

Yes, lightly raking the lawn in spring can remove debris, dead grass leaves and any remnants of snow mold.  This allows air circulation, sun exposure to the grass plants and helps the lawn start spring growth.  Please see the following MSU article for a description:  https://www.canr.msu.edu/news/spring_lawn_care_tips_the_red_light_green_light_version

Hope this helps.
