JASMINE PLANT DOES NOT BLOOM #926273

Asked March 18, 2026, 11:31 PM EDT

I WAS GIVEN A JASMINE PLANT LAST JUNE THAT WAS PURCHASED AT BACHMANS. WHEN I RECEIVED IT THERE WERE ONLY A COUPLE SMALL BLOOMS ON IT AND SINCE THEN IT HAS NEVER BLOOMED. THE LEAVES ARE HEALTHY AND IT GROWS NEW LEAF SHOOTS. IT GETS GOOD LIGHT DURING THE WINTER, SPRING AND FALL & I PLACED IT ON MY DECK THIS PAST SUMMER.I WATER IT WHEN IT DRIES OUT. I HAVEN'T FERTILIZED IT BECAUSE I READ ONLINE THAT THIS COULD JUST CAUSE MORE LEAF GROWTH AND NOT AID IN DEVELOPING ANY FLOWERS. I AM LOOKING FOR ANY THOUGHTS ON WHY IT DOESN'T BLOOM AND WILL ANYTHING HELP.

Thank you for your question for Extension Master Gardeners. Jasmine is a beautiful indoor plant with nice blooms. From what you describe, it seems like you're doing everything right to help your plant thrive. Jasmine is a picky plant, and conditions have to be optimum for blooms.  A few things to help you:

1. I'm not sure how long you've had the plant but check to make sure the soil is porous and well-drained.

2. You will need to fertilize your plant in the growing season with a half strength fertilizer in the growing season. Nutrients in a potted plant deplete fast if not supplemented with fertilizer.

3. Proper light is important for Jasmine. See the link below for more information.

Since your plant was purchased at Bachmans, here is a link to their page about Jasmine:
