We have information about cultivating grapes and cultivars to consider growing (it's not an exhaustive list) on our Growing Grapes in a Home Garden web page. Like fruit trees, grape vines require regular, yearly maintenance that includes disease prevention (often a fungicide spray) to minimize problems that can affect the harvest. If wild grape vines grow in natural areas nearby (Maryland is home to several species, some quite common/widespread), they can harbor grape pests and disease spores, so vigilance with preventative measures will be extra important in that situation. Choose a site with plenty of summer sun and good airflow, which has a very sturdy support in place that will last for years without needing to be rebuilt or replaced, as mature grape vines are heavy and need a reliable structure to secure them.
