Hi Tim,
Given your circumstances, the risk of termite infestation is incredibly low. I always recommend prevention, but I wouldn't classify termite baiting as a preventative measure, it's more of a reactionary chemical control measure. Continue to keep nearby wood from contacting soil. Mulch should be raked about a foot away from the house, as this can also be a food source. And keep an eye out for mud tubes (through which termites transit). These mud tubes are often along the corners of buildings or in crawlspaces.
Termites tend to attack older homes where the wood has become moisture damaged. Since this does not apply to you, your risk is very low.
Pest control companies sometimes recommend superfluous services to increase their billable amount, this could be a case of that. Also, termites are pretty rare that far east. Subterranean termites like high moisture and die easily from desiccation, that's why they construct mud tubes. I am curious what information your pest control company was using to make that recommendation.
