How do I prune a climbing rosebush? #925705

Asked March 09, 2026, 3:22 PM EDT

I need to prune my rosebush, but I’m worried about cutting the climbers so where do I cut? Mid March is that too soon or too late to prune?

Hello,
Timing of pruning will vary based on the type of climbing rose you have. Does yours repeat bloom or bloom once a year? One-bloom roses should be pruned after bloom. Repeat bloomers can be pruned in late winter or early spring. The WSU publication below has some diagrams with where to cut.
