NH Annuals #925691

Asked March 09, 2026, 1:28 PM EDT

Greetings! I received this email from someone at the NH Audubon Society. I had a question and they redirected me here. My question is if anyone cad direct me to a comprehensive list of all known NH native annuals. There are many sources that list trees, shrubs, perennial and some biennial, but I seem to not be able to find a list for the annuals.

Expert Response

Hi Nicholas,

Thank you for contacting the UNH Extension Yard & Garden Infoline. My name is Debi Green. I am a Master Gardener volunteer and I am happy to answer your question.

There are not many annuals that are native to our area. The best resource to look for natives of any type of plant is The Native Plant Trust. https://plantfinder.nativeplanttrust.org/index.cfm

They have a "plant finder" page where you select the criteria you're looking for and your Eco-region and will show you the plants that are a perfect fit. I went on there and searched annuals for our region and it only gave me two results: Nuttallanthus canadensis
oldfield-toadflax and Oenothera biennis
common evening-primrose.

I wish there was more to offer you but apparently those are the only two.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with!
