I'm including a link to the Central Coast Beekeepers Association. The club will be your best resource for bees who fare on the coast.
The particular race of honey bee is less important than learning how to manage bees for 2-3 years then branch out to specific desired traits.
The Honey Bee Health Coalition has a great publication,
"Best Management Practices for Hive Health", which will help guide you on your beekeeping journey.
