Meyer Lemon Tree with pests on leaves #925594

Asked March 07, 2026, 7:02 PM EST

Hello, I have a Meyer Lemon Tree which has been in the house since late October. I have recently noticed sticky clear sap on many of these leaves and on the floor under the tree. Some of the leaves have small brown bugs. They are very flat, and adherent to the leaves. (I can't scrape them off) How can I get rid of these bugs. I plan to move the tree back outside sometime in April. Thanks!

Expert Response

Thank you for your question.  I can’t see the insects in your photo, but the presence of “sticky sap” would indicate aphids, which are described in this Extension article:  https://extension.oregonstate.edu/es/news/how-grow-meyer-lemons-successfully-pacific-northwest

If you decide that the pests are either scale (unlikely) or spider mites, follow the directions for their control.  Good luck!
