Safe Biochar #925446

Asked March 04, 2026, 7:05 PM EST

My friend is 85 and still logs her 25 acres. She wants to know if you can use walnut trees to make biochar. She can't find anyone who knows if they are good for that. Thank you

Expert Response

Yes, any trees can be used to make biochar as they are all about 50% carbon based upon their dry weight. However, this is currently a low value use of wood where it is currently unclear of how economical it might be.
