Expert Response

To manage a red clover, cover crop, cut or mow it down when it begins to flower in spring—but before it sets seed—using string trimmers, shears, or a mower. Incorporate the residue into the top 2-4 inches of soil or leave it on top as green manure mulch. Wait 2-3 weeks for it to decompose before planting vegetables.
