Dahlia seedlings #925402

Asked March 04, 2026, 10:55 AM EST

Hi, I have a some dahlias that I started from seeds. I want to move them to an unheated greenhouse until I can plant them outside. They are getting pretty big and well developed. Will they do ok with the nighttime temperatures at this time of the year? Thanks.

Hi Pamela,
As you know, dahlias do not fare well when the temperatures drop to freezing. If you move the seedlings to an unheated greenhouse, keep a close eye on the forecasted night time lows being prepared to cover them on nights that get close to 32. Here's a publication from Utah State University Extension on "Growing Dahlias".
