I am in the south Portland suburbs and was wanting to plant an olive tree but I see the are in the same family of trees that the emerald ash borer infests. Should I avoid planting a tree susceptible to them and may therefore contribute to there spread? Or is an Olive tree less likely to become infested and relatively safe from infestation?

Hi Aden and thanks for your question about planting an olive tree. At this time, I would really recommend against it. Yes, they are also attractive to the Emerald Ash Borer and at this time we don't really have a strategy to keep them safe. Hopefully research will remedy this in a few years, but until then, how about a nice fig or oak tree!
