Hello A. Dickerson,
A typical Michigan lawn generally needs 2–4 fertilizer applications per growing season (spring–fall), depending on how high‑maintenance you want the turf to be and how much you water and mow. University and Extension sources emphasize that the right amount depends on lawn goals, soil conditions, and turf species, but they consistently place Michigan lawns in this 2–4 application range.
Soil testing matters more than the number of applications
Michigan State University strongly encourages soil testing to determine whether phosphorus or potassium is needed. Many Michigan soils already have adequate P and K, meaning you may only need nitrogen.
PLEASE GET A SOIL TEST – IF YOU ALREADY DID A SOIL TEST – PLEASE SEND ME A COPY OF THE REPORT (MSU Soil Test Report Code) – THANK YOU!

What about weed‑and‑feed?
University turf programs generally recommend:
Use weed‑and‑feed only when weeds are present, not automatically every spring.
Spot‑treating weeds is often healthier for the lawn and environment.
What about grub control?
Please read the MSUE article - How to choose and when to apply grub control products for your lawn at this link:

I hope this helps!
