Looks like I should fertilize but it’s so early! #925320

Asked March 02, 2026, 8:02 PM EST

Should I start feeding my flowers and shrubs? Blue and raspberries? I even have a geranium blooming off of last year’s growth. My currents are at least two months early. My honeysuckles never stopped blooming. This is nuts! So, should I act like it is late April? Thanks for your help. Gregory

Thank you for your question.  Yes, spring has arrived earlier this year.  But, timing wise, it’s the best time to clean up and prune some perennials, so new foliage will be “ready” to absorb nutrients.  Just be careful that your trodding on the soil won’t compact it while it’s still moist.  Here is a short “to do” list to keep you busy, and the plants happy:  https://extension.oregonstate.edu/sites/extd8/files/documents/12281/springgardeningtips.pdf
