Raised beds can be built using various materials or by just mounding soil into rows or sections to raise bed height. Raised bed soils should be light and well-drained. Constructed beds can be filled with bagged potting mixes or by mixing topsoil with composted organic matter. A good ratio of soil to compost is 70% soil to 30% compost or a 50:50 mix. You can mix your own or some landscape companies and garden centers sell premixed soils.
