I'm including links to two OSU Extension publications which will give you more information than you probably need. The first is "Practical Lawn Care for Western Oregon." This publication suggests aeration and overseeing when the lawn grows patchy. The second publication is "Practical Lawn Establishment and Renovation". This publication has information right near the beginning about clay soil. It's not a bad thing as it holds nutrients and water for plants. It also talks about what varieties of grass seed and micro clover to plant.
I think that these will help you make decisions regarding your lawn.
