Earhtworks for rainwater #924640

Asked February 16, 2026, 12:09 PM EST

I am looking for Willamette valley specific information on passive rainwater management using earthworks. I think I have a good site for using swails, however, I am struggling to find resources to research this topic. I am looking for details pertaining to soil type, grade, rain patterns, etc. any advice or connection to boos or other resources would be very welcome. I want to go into this project with confidence, and right now I feel like there are too many unknown variables.

I think your best bet would be to contact the Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District. Another great resource is the Washington County office of the Natural Resource Conservation District. If you are within the bounds of an established watershed council, they, too, should be a good resource.

Like Cooperative Extension, both public agencies provide technical information about soil and water use and conservation. Depending on your specific circumstances, either may be able to direct you toward funding sources for your project.

Watershed councils vary in their missions, but would certainly be valuable connections for you based on the information you have provided.
