This tree is in the Hagerstown, Md City Park. Probably an exotic planted years ago, The small cones are 3/4 inch in diameter and have a sort of star burst pattern on them.

Expert Response

There isn't enough detail visible to be certain -- leaves, while not always diagnostic by themselves, can be very helpful for determining plant ID -- this may be a Baldcypress (Taxodium distichum), a deciduous conifer. Using a guide like the Virginia Tech tree ID key may help you examine details in the twigs and bud arrangement to be more precise about ID. (That key might not have all the possible species in its database, but it does include commonly-grown non-native species as well as native species.)

Thanks, seed cones look like baldcypress, I'll verify when the leaves are out later in summer.
