Found a bee on the ground yesterday that appeared sluggish. I think the mild weather must have lured it out of hibernation because there are no blooms anywhere on our property. Today it was dead. Is this happening often this year?

Hi Kelly and thanks for your great picture of the bumble bee. Yes, she probably got lured out of the ground by the warm weather and since queens are the only ones to survive the winter, she was looking for a warm hole to make a nest and start a new family when the cold overtook her. It's too bad, because they really are a great, hard working little insect. Hopefully there are others around still sleeping!
