Laurel tree issues- Laurus nobles #924568

Asked February 13, 2026, 4:36 PM EST

I think that I have identidied one issue with the laurel in question which is browning starting on the tips of the leaves and extending down with more on the leaves on the upper part of the plant. I do not know what is causing the small dark spots on the underside of the leaves and barely visible on the top. Looking at the leaves under a microscope, these spots are blotchy and seem to be within the plant cell. There is no over laping of the spots that measure about the size of a pin prick - thouigh this may be an early stage of something that get larger. There is no indication of any insects. My phone and my laptop are none communitive so I hope that you can figure this out without a photo.

Expert Response

Dear Sally,

Thank you for contacting us about your laurel. These plants are prone to a number of leaf-spotting pests and diseases.

We would need some photos to properly try to diagnose the problem. However, some additional information would also help.
  • Is this a cherry laurel or other species?
  • When did the lesions first appear on the leaves?
  • Have the lesions grown larger?
  • Do you see the lesions advancing throughout the plant?
If you cannot send photos (close up of the lesions and a photo of the entire plant), you may find information that is helpful on the following pages: With a little investigation, we may be able to identify the problem. Most importantly, do not attempt to treat the plant until you know the cause.
