Pheasants #924438

Asked February 10, 2026, 5:07 PM EST

We used to have wild pheasant on our property and A friend of mine told me she heard that the state sometimes has eggs to incubate to try and re-establish the population. Just wondering if that’s something that is possible Thank you

Expert Response

Pheasants are a non-native game species that can be raised for use. Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is the appropriate agency to contact. I doubt the agency has eggs, but they do offer a list of licensed propagators who might be  sources:  https://www.dfw.state.or.us/wildlife/license_permits_apps/docs/CLR710-Game_Bird_Propagation_License.xlsx
ODFW is definitely the agency however, with which you need to get licensed to propagate these birds https://www.dfw.state.or.us/wildlife/license_permits_apps/docs/Game%20Bird%20Propagation%20Application.pdf
It would be a very good idea to contact ODFW directly and get full and correct answers before you get started on this project! The headquarters can be reached at <personal data hidden>.
