I have American hop seeds. My goal is to attract the Hop Merchant butterfly. It is February in east-central Ohio but the ground is still unfrozen. Should I plant a few outdoors but rely mostly on planting in pots. If I plant indoors, when should I do that? Wait until Spring? When in the spring? Any special instructions? I would really like responses. If from fellow leps hat would be greatly appreciated. If I am successful with the vines I will next be asking for Cats!

Hello -
If you have the space to start the seeds indoors that would be the best place. The hop seeds need to go through scarification before you plant them. Meaning you will need to nick, scuff or soften (with warm water) the seeds. Plant the seeds in small containers and pot up as that seeds grow out of the containers.
