Master Gardner Program volunteer time #924403

Asked February 10, 2026, 9:33 AM EST

I've heard when graduating the Master Gardner program one must do a volunteer project. We are senior citizens who are having a house built on old farm property. There is approximately a1.5 - 2 acre area that we'd like to turn into a natural area with native plants and flowers that would support bees, birds, etc. Is it a possiblility that this could be a MG project? Thank you

Hello
No, not likely because qualified volunteer projects usually educate and/or benefit the community. I will send this along to Sarah Rautio to give her opinion.

Yes-that answer is correct. Volunteer work cannot take place on private property and needs to have an educational component at a public community site. We have many projects you can get involved with if you were to pursue application to the program. We can be reached at <personal data hidden> if you have additional questions.
