my peace lily is dying #924237

Asked February 04, 2026, 5:11 PM EST

I've had this peace lily for 10 years and had never transplanted it. It has flourished for a long time. But a few sections started dying off in the last couple months. So I finally pulled it out of its pot, changed the soil for some good potting soil i got from a nursery (same stuff they use themselves). I blended it about 4:1 with perlite. That was about 2 weeks ago. It went into shock for a few days, then started to perk up. The soil felt moist, so I didn't water it. But it started to droop. I gave it more water, but it's even more droopy today, and some of the leaves are dying. Can I still save it?

Expert Response

Hello,

I suspect this is just stress from being repotted (called "transplant shock"). Peace lilies are a bit "dramatic" and tend to do this. It will take some time for the plant to form new roots and adjust to its new growing conditions.

Keep the soil moist, but not too wet. Let it dry slightly between waterings. In about a month, fertilize with a half-rate of fertilizer. Hopefully it will start to recover in a couple more weeks!
