Moss in vegetable gardens #924231
Asked February 04, 2026, 4:02 PM EST
I live in Eugene and grow a lot of vegetables. I also have a small plot near my vegetable beds that is essentially a meadow, although a planned one. The meadow, which is new, is showing a lot of moss, where the mosss fits fine. But I am also getting more moss now in my vegetable beds nearby. Should I be getting rid of it? And if so, what’s the best way? Just scrape it out? I am planning to test the PH, too, since I realize that is a potential issue.
Thanks,

Moss is frequently a symptom of poor drainage. There are many different mosses with differing requirements, but out local ones tend to prefer more acid soils. There are also plants which look much like mosses. I can best help you if you have a pH test and a clear photo of the invading plants. I look forward to your getting back to me.
