Hi Gerard,
I find this information sheet helpful including the "Selecting the Right Variety" section helpful: https://extension.unh.edu/sites/default/files/migrated_unmanaged_files/Resource000609_Rep631.pdf
There are many things to consider. Are you planning to buy seeds and start indoors? If you buy the seedling plants at a garden store, follow the guidelines for picking healthy strong plants and you should have success in your garden.
I'm not sure I could recommend a "best tomato". Planting tomatoes in the right sunny location with good soil and fertilizing is important. Hopefully this summer will provide the ideal conditions for providing you with home grown tomatoes!
