Expert Response

Hi Summer and thanks for your question and picture of your Douglas Fir seedling. Yes, it will still grow as one of the side branches will arch up and become the top, but it will not be as strong as if it had a complete top.

I'm also concerned about how near it seems to be to the rock and the sidewalk. It will get to be very large with an extensive root system, so if you want to try raising it, it might be better to move it to somewhere it can reach out roots to at least a 30 foot circle.

Another option is to let it grow to about 6 feet and keep it trimmed for a future Christmas tree. It might not be the perfect shape, but it will be yours!

Good luck,
