Larvae in Incense Cedar #923963

Asked January 27, 2026, 2:45 PM EST

I am cleaning Incense Cedar seed (Calocedrus decurrens) and am finding larvae in it. The seed has already been in a cooler stratifying and the larvae appear to be immobile/dead. Most have already blackened but the "fresher" ones are greenish in color, have a small black head, and are about 1 cm in length. I have supplied some pictures but they are not the greatest quality.

I did a search for cedar seed pests and did not get any that fit this situation. Most of the source’s state there are no pests of major concern. I looked at your pic and see beetle larva that is feeding internally. I do not believe it is a lepidoptera caterpillar. None of the sources give any seed treatments.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Could it possibly be a weevil larva?

Yes, and these insects are little known and very hard to ID
