novice home gardener #923959

Asked January 27, 2026, 1:57 PM EST

i have done a bit of gardening - scattered through the yard d/t circumstances. Now i want to take my 3 strawberry beds, the asparagus and rhubarb next to it and move these to a permanent spot in the front yard. From here i want a full garden for 4 adults. i know next to nothing about gardening and generally go with a wing and a prayer. Is there someone i can sit down with and work on how to go about my plan?

Thanks for your question.

There is a lot of gardening information available from Oregon State Extension.   Here are a couple examples:

-"Growing Your Own" - https://extension.oregonstate.edu/catalog/em-9027-growing-your-own.   This is a great guide to growing your own vegetables and covers everything from selecting varieties, raised beds, when to plant, and many other topics.

    - "Growing Asparagus takes patience but rewards gardeners for years" - https://extension.oregonstate.edu/news/growing-asparagus-takes-patience-rewards-gardeners-years

I would recommend you contact Lane County Master Gardeners to see if they can talk more specifics with you.  Here is their contact information:  https://extension.oregonstate.edu/mg/lane/have-gardening-question
