Money Tree #923838

Asked January 21, 2026, 5:36 PM EST

I have a Money Tree near a sliding glass door, and it's very healthy. With the best of intentions, I repotted it last spring to give it more space, but now it's starting to get a bit too big for the space. What is the best way to prune the Money Tree without harming it? Thank you so much in advance for any advice that you might share!

Hello Kali,

What fun to have a Money Tree (Pachira aquatica) that appears to be thriving Read about the Money Tree here: https://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/plantfinder/plantfinderdetails.aspx?taxonid=277941

To prune, cut back overgrown or leggy stems just above the leaf node to encourage lower branching. Use sterilized pruners. See the attached video for hints on how to prune: https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=how+to+prune+a+money+tree&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:11928df8,vid:hFjlec0W_Ng,st:0
