16 acres help! #923317

Asked January 05, 2026, 9:21 AM EST

I recently bought 16 acres in Flushing Township, Genesee County. The property is largely overgrown and untouched for 30 years. I am looking for solutions for forest management. Specifically involving invasive vines. If you have a referral that may point me in the right direction I would sincerely appreciate it. Thank you,

Expert Response

Hi Patrick,
Congratulations on your new property!!
I highly recommend establishing a relationship with the Genesee County Conservation District, and more specifically, the staff of the CISMA, or Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area, which is co-located with the Conservation District. Below is a link to the CISMA website:

Below is an article on invasive vine removal to help get you started (I'm sure the CISMA folks have a LOT more information to share).

You may also consider membership in the Michigan Forest Association, which is a group that works to educate forest landowners while also providing space for comradery.

Good luck on your land management journey!
