Pruning fruit trees #923001

Asked December 19, 2025, 4:32 PM EST

I have a number of apple, pear, peach and cherry trees that need to be pruned and I live above 6,400 feet. I am having major foot surgery in early February and will not be able to climb a ladder until late April. Is it better to prune the trees in late January, or will it be okay to prune in April? Thank you

Expert Response

HI John,

Better to go with January; you want to prune before the buds start swelling and I think April will be too late, even at your elevation.  Good luck with your surgery!

Cordially,

John
