Decaying Calocedrus decurrens #922980

Asked December 18, 2025, 9:05 PM EST

Hello, I live in West Linn in Clackamas County. On Dec 16, my 25 year old Calocedrus decurrens (CA Incense Cedar) was blown over by the high winds. It just sheared off at the base just above the root mass. We had an arborist come today and he said that the tree was apparently decaying from the inside while appearing perfectly healthy on the outside. I have 2 other Cedars planted out 10-15' apart in the group. We had an arborist come 2 years ago to check the health of all 3 trees and they were given the all clear. I am now concerned that the other 2 might be compromised even though they look fine from the outside. We are wondering whether it is prudent to remove them preemptively. The arborist today said he couldn't be certain that they were not succumbing to the same fate. If the other 2 failed they could fall into houses. I am sending some pictures, and I also have a sample I removed from the center of the tree base that looks like a fungus. Please let me know what you think and if you would like me to send in the sample for testing. Thank you.
