Asked December 18, 2025, 3:39 PM EST

What are the two best dwarf apple trees to plant in pots in the Wilsonville Oregon area that will provide cross pollination. We have a full sun east west spot to plant. Where can we buy them.

Clackamas County Oregon

Expert Response

We don't know enough to be more specific. We just know that you need two different apple trees in order to pollinate and that they need maximum sun. Our address is 28013 SW Engle St Wilsonville OR 97070. We were hoping to put them in containers unless you tell us it is necessary to plant them directly into the ground.

What else do you need to know?  be specific about what additional information you need.

Hi Georgia and thanks for your question about dwarf apple trees. Eventually, you WILL have to put them in the ground, as dwarf doesn't mean "tiny" and apple trees aren't meant to be potted plants.

There are so many varieties out there now, I would just go to a reputable nursery (NOT a big box store or general food store) and see what they have in stock and what they recommend. Try several places and be sure to look at the tags to see how big they should get. Also know that the tags are not always correct and you could end up with a larger tree than you planned.

Good luck and happy hunting,
