Inquiry About Support for 3rd Grade Gardening Project** #922839

Asked December 12, 2025, 6:16 PM EST

My 3rd grade class is beginning a “Curiosity Quest” focused on gardening. As part of our project, we hope to renovate several old raised beds on our school grounds that are currently overgrown with weeds and in need of repair. Our students are eager to learn about a variety of gardening topics, including: * Plant needs and life cycles * Pollination * Soil care and amendments * Mulching and composting * Growing plants for both food and flowers * Supporting beneficial insects (we are hoping to hatch praying mantises in the spring) We are wondering if Oregon State Extension offers any kind of assistance, guidance, educational resources, or partnership opportunities that could support our project. We would greatly appreciate any advice, printed materials, workshops, or volunteer support you may be able to recommend—especially related to repairing and restoring our raised beds. Thank you very much for your time and for the work you do to support gardening education in our community. We look forward to hearing from you.

Expert Response

Hi Tonja!

The master gardeners can definitely help with education, some seeds/literature, and in general work together on programming. Your list of gardening topics are all well within our realm.

Feel free to call or email me directly to discuss further, and thank you for reaching out!
