Lumber Grading Class #922765

Asked December 09, 2025, 1:38 PM EST

Last summer the Oregon legislature pass a lumber grading class. I and several folks are anxious to take the online class. I taught university engineering classes and the subject would blend well with an online class. With some prep, I could probably teach/record the class. Thanks - Thom Dr. Thom Seal, PE.

Hi Thom:

Thanks for the message.  Yes, plans are in progress for the training.  Although it will only be offered in-person since the training will require a final test to ensure participants are able to accurately grade lumber.

Our initial plans were to bring someone in from another state that has conducted similar trainings there - a 'pilot run' if you will.  However, the person we had in mind won't be available for quite some time.  So we are regrouping a bit.  Bottom line though is we hope to offer the training in late Spring of next year in 2 locations - Medford and LaGrande.  I'll add your name to the list of interested parties so that we'll be sure to contact you once the training is ready to go.  You can have the other people you know that are interested contact me as well.

If you are interested in online training that would qualify you to be a certified lumber grader, you might want to look into PLIB's courses that are currently under development - https://plib.org/lumber-grading-marking/education-and-training/

Kind regards,
Scott
