Disinfecting agricultural equipment #922741

Asked December 08, 2025, 2:09 PM EST

Hello, I was looking into the common standards for disinfecting agricultural equipment and tools, especially in corn, soybean and wheat fields. I have run into individuals asking about our we disinfect our testing equipment from one site to the next. What degree should one go through from one site to the next, right now we are looking at putting down a disposable sheet for transportation between sites, spray down and whip down with 70% alcohol or a bleach solution. I this overboard or is there another process you would suggest or direct me to.

Hi Morgan,
It sounds like what you are doing is adequate and a good choice, as it lets you tell your clients you have a protocol in place. There is an article that provides recommendations for gardening tools that you may find helpful and gives you a resource to back up your claims  https://extension.umn.edu/planting-and-growing-guides/clean-and-disinfect-gardening-tools.

I hope this helps
