Expert Response

Thank you for your patience as the end of the semester here is always a bit hectic.

I am attaching a detailed file I have on controlling woody shrubs that includes information for additional contacts for invasive species, such as the buckthorns, and information on applications near waterways.

One of the herbicide active ingredients recommended is triclopyr. There are several aquatic approved products on the list mentioned from MDARD, including Garlon 3A (not to be confused with other Garlons), Navirtol Landscape and Aquatic Herbicide, and Renovate OTF. I am not sure where the best place to purchase these products is, but that may be a good question for the MDARD hotline listed in the file.

Please remember always to read and follow all labeled instructions.

I appreciate you being conscious of the environment and wildlife...I wish more people were :)

Erin...

Thank you for your follow up.   My husband and I have been attacking these "aliens" for a number of years after noticing their destruction in our local parks and our property.   The buckhorns get our attention too.

Happy holidays to you.   Thank you for all that you do to teach us about this threats.
