Which variety of olive tree do you recommend for the West Slope neighborhood in southwest Portland? #922706

We planted an arbequina olive variety that has grown well but olives never come to maturity.

Washington County Oregon

Expert Response

Hello,
A olive variety which is easier to find and seems to do well in Oregon is Leccino. It has larger olives than Arbequina and ripens earlier. Do you have another pollenizer tree? Arbequina are supposed to be more self-fertile, but Leccino may need another olive to bear fruit such as Pendolino or Frantoio.

Thank you so much for your reply.

I wanted to make double-sure - can we use our existing Arbequina to fertilize the Leccino?  I assume not but I wanted to make sure.

Thanks again.

Hello,
Arbequina is not listed as a pollenizer for Leccino, so you instead may want to get one of the other trees I listed. Pendolino has been hardy in the OSU olive trials so far. Below is a document with more information:

Thanks for clarifying.  We will go with one of your suggestions.  Most likely Pendolino.  Cheers.
