pruning a Pee GEe Hydrangea #922374

Asked November 24, 2025, 4:23 PM EST

We planted a Pee Gee Hydrangea ~ 4 years ago. When we put it in the ground there were 5 - 6 nicely spaced branches. I have pruned them each fall and each spring each of the 5-6 original arms have multiplied by 3-4. Now there are so many branches that the branches break under the weight of the blossoms when wet. I would like to prune back to a smaller profile - How far back can I prune? Can I prune back behind the 2024 and 2025 growth?

So It looks like I can prune as far back as needed as long as I don't take more than 30% of the growth!?  Thanks,  Barb
