Raised strawberry bed #922306

Asked November 22, 2025, 1:05 PM EST

How should I trim the strawberries in a raised bed? Should I trim the runners? Besides covering with straw/leaves how can I protect the plants from freezing?

Thank you for reaching out.

Normally you don't trim back strawberries.  If you can tuck them all into the raised beds.  Water them until the soil freezes and then cover them with the straw-about 3-5 inches.  You can also add a hoop cover if you want I'm honestly not sure what else you can do

I hope this helps!  Happy Thanksgiving!

If I don’t trim them won’t they keep growing out of the raised bed?

Yes you can trim them back,  I've never grown them in a raised bed, but researching it says you can trim them back.  I would trim harder in the spring when they would have lots of time to recover.
