weeds on walking paths #922115

Asked November 18, 2025, 12:28 PM EST

We have a mile or so of walking paths in he Vineyard Mountain Park. Encroaching weeds are challenging. A mix of mowing and herbicides seems the best plan. Have thought herbicides every second year with mowing as needed a good approach. Could we get your advice with perhaps a site visit?

Expert Response

Thank you for reaching about weed control at the Vineyard Mountain Park! Since Vineyard Mountain Park is governed by a Vineyard Mountain Stewardship Plan. Control of weeds can be challenging given the amount of ecological important native species present. Are you looking for advice for weed control for the entire 29.27 acres? What weeds are you most concerned about encroaching on the oak savannah?

Given the large area, I would recommend reaching out to the Benton Soil and Water Conservation District or the OSU Extension Forestry and Natural Resources Extension Forester. Either should be able to assist you coming up with a long term management plan for the Vineyard Mountain Park and potentially provide a site visit.
