Central Oregon Native Ground Covers/Grasses #922073

Asked November 17, 2025, 1:52 PM EST

Hi! I have recently done some excavation on my property which has left large areas of uncovered soil. I don’t want cheat grass invading and am wondering if there is any native grass or other seed I might broadcast in the areas? There is no irrigation so I must rely on rain and snow. I live just north of Bend. Thank you!

Hi Cynthia,

You could reach out to Deschutes Basin Native Plant Seedbank; they have around a dozen native seed species for purchase in their seedbank.  Here is a link to their website:   https://dbnpseed.org/

Here is a list of native plants which incudes native grasses:  https://extension.oregonstate.edu/catalog/ec-1623-selecting-native-plants-home-landscapes-central-oregon

Please reach out if you have further questions.
