Peach tree transplant #921922

Asked November 13, 2025, 7:18 PM EST

I planted a little (5 ft) Frost Peach in May of 24, have moved and would like to transplant it, all within the same county. My question is when is the best time of year to do this (I've looked into it and found every season listed), and can I keep it in a very large box full of good soil for a while until I can get it into the ground at the new house? It wasn't supposed to yield fruite for 2 years, but I got a peach last summer and 30 this summer.

Thank you for your question, Jennifer.  Here is a similar question about peach trees, but it applies to most fruit trees:  https://extension.oregonstate.edu/ask-extension/featured/winter-good-time-transplant-my-fruit-tree

During the winter, if you're keeping it in soil, be sure that the roots stay moist, but not in standing water.  You can leave it outside, assuming that it is a "Frost Proof Peach", which can stand temperatures down to -10 deg. F.

I hope this is helpful.  Good luck!
