I was gifted asparagus crowns today from a gardener reigning in their large bed. It is 11/09. My garden is in Bloomington and I have not yet tested the soil. I am wondering if I can plant now or if there is a way to over -winter the crowns and plant in spring.

Expert Response
It's probably best to plant the crowns now. Prepare the bed as you would in spring. Set the roots in the trench and cover with a few inches of soil. Water well and mulch heavily.
In spring remove the mulch, and gradually fill the trench with soil as the shoots develop.
